YCC Mentor Program

Youth Creating Change is fortunate that seasoned organizers and leaders mentor our Fellows during the grassroots organizer trainings. YCC mentors provide essential support to YCC Fellows during breakout sessions, when Fellows apply the classroom training to their social justice projects. Outside of trainings, Fellows and Mentors can communicate with each-other using YCC’s internal Slack channel.

The YCC Mentor Advisory Board, chaired by the Montgomery County Board of Education Member Lynne Harris, meets with YCC’s student leaders every other week, at the conclusion of each YCC training. They provide invaluable advice to the student led YCC Board and Officers as they make adjustments to the program throughout the fellowship year.

CUAH and YCC are always looking for adult community leaders who are interested in mentoring YCC Fellows. In advance of each training, YCC provides each mentor with the presentation slides and an opportunity to participate in a dry run of the training.

YCC Fellowship graduates also serve as mentors to YCC Fellows. Student Mentors must complete a year of YCC trainings and successfully organize a social justice project in their school or community in order to be eligible to take on this role.
