Please become an individual sponsor of the 2019 Taste of Communities United fundraiser at 6pm on April 28, 2019 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Chevy Chase, MD. This family friendly event will feature food from 20+ countries, and honor Congressman Jamie Raskin, Montgomery College President Dr. DeRionne Pollard, and CASA Executive Director Gustavo Torres.

CUAH is a broad and diverse network of community leaders, organizers and concerned residents in Montgomery County who work with government leaders to fight the bias, discrimination and hate that continues to contaminate our county and country. The funds raised at this event will directly support CUAH’s core programming and help expand our online engagement efforts.

Key program highlights include the following:

  • Youth Creating Change (YCC) supports and incubates student-led social justice projects with mentorship, organizing training, grant funding, and public recognition at YCC’s annual Social Change Conference. In 2018 YCC:

    • Recruited and organized YCC student coordinators at more than a dozen area high schools, and created a website and a social media program to facilitate student-led activism;

    • Selected more than 30 YCC Fellows from high schools all over the county who are leading 21 different initiatives to tackle the achievement gap, advocate for gun violence prevention, launch a mobile device software app developed by the Minority Scholars Program, fight sexual harassment in schools, advocate for better programs to support students with autism, create an art mural through an inclusive model of school-wide engagement, and build many other innovative projects in diverse communities;  and

    • Provided YCC Fellows with monthly student-organizer trainings focused on the basics of project development, fundraising, grant writing, outreach, and management

  • Fight Acts of Hate and Bias Training Program is a year-long county-wide training series on hate crimes and bias incidents led by the Stop Hate Project of the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and other experts. Our trainings focus on bystander intervention, awareness of hostile environments, anti-bias education, and community resources.

  • Healthy Dialogs is project that facilitates healthy, civil and honest conversation between county residents with differing religious, political and ideological viewpoints.

Strong support from people like you is critically important to CUAH’s ability to continue putting forward initiatives that combat bigotry and hate effectively. We we hope that you will support us by sponsoring the Taste of Communities United (see sponsorship options).  All donations are tax deductible since we are a 501(c)(3) organization.
