Please join CUAH on Sunday, April 29th at 6 – 8:30 pm for our Taste of Communities United: Global Street Food & Raffle! Bring your families and join us in sampling street food from around the world. We will also recognize our amazing MoCo student leaders and honor Grammy award-winning musician and author Daryl Davis and Maryland State Senator Rich Madaleno for their work over the years advancing CUAH’s mission to unite our diverse community to combat bigotry, support victims of hate, and promote inclusiveness in Montgomery County. The event will take place at St. John’s Episcopal Church (Parish Hall), 6701 Wisconsin Ave, Chevy Chase, MD.
The funds raised at this event will support CUAH’s online-engagement efforts and our new Youth Engagement and Leadership Program (YELP), which recognizes that our schools are critical points of entry for combating hate and bigotry, closing the achievement gap, promoting inclusiveness, and building cultures of dignity. YELP’s student-led peer advocacy, support and education are important avenues to address these challenges and effectively reach students and communities in need of change. Most recently, YELP supported MoCo Students for Gun Control with mentorship from veteran organizers, two training sessions on gun control policy and grassroots organizing methods, and a grant of $2,500 to pay for buses that enabled students from Poolesville and Olney to participate in the March 14th school walkout, demonstration at the White House, and rally at the Capitol.
